SPINRITE YARN PACKAGE – INDUSTRIAL DESIGN

I was contacted by DZINE4 to help with the industrial design and testing of a new package concept for Spinrite Yarn. Traditionally, yarn is bundled and wrapped in plastic, and it sits in a bin or on a shelf in the retail environment. Spinrite has a unique way of bundling their yarn into a hoop shape that makes it stand out from other brands, and they wanted the packaging to capitalize on that uniqueness, helping the product stand out in a competitive market space.

I was given some concepts and and tasked with refining and testing them for functionality, and the ability to assemble the package in a timely manner. The early concepts didn’t quite workout as hoped, and I was soon going back to DZINE4 with some alternative design options. My goal with packaging is always to make it out of a biodegradable material, and have the ability to produce it using recycled content.

The new concept uses paper material, it can hang on a hook or stand up on a shelf, and it can be assembled fast by hand, with no fasteners or tape. The client loved it, and DZINE4 carried out production graphics and execution.  A year on, the package won a PAC design award in 2023 for Best in Class.
